Introduction When thinking about Scripture there are many principles that show up countless times but two of the most important are holiness and love. Holiness is critical to Scripture because it outlines how pure and righteous God himself is but also describes many of the prophets as they came to personally know God and their wicked hearts were changed and washed clean, so they too could become righteous and pure in heart and action. Love is the central theme of the Bible because it was love that drove his decision to send his only begotten son to our world so that he could die for us to be able to receive salvation (ESV). Also, Scripture teaches us the true meaning of love and explains how we should love, respect, and treat not only believers with dignity but all of the people we come in contact with. In other words, holiness and love are extremely significant when discussing our faith. Holiness Theological Definition Holiness is the quality of perfection and not only not sinning actively but actually being unable to commit sin. This means by the theological definition that only God himself is holy because mankind is flawed and will continue to sin. However, throughout the Bible there are references that we the people are called to be holy as God is holy so while we will never achieve absolute holiness we are to act as much like God as humanly possible (Towns, 1994).
